What is Message in a Bottle
The Lions Message in a Bottle scheme is a simple idea designed to encourage people to keep their personal and medical details on a standard form and in a common location - The Fridge.
How does the scheme Work
As the name suggests, the personal and medical information is kept on a form inside a small plastic bottle, the bottle has a push fit lid and is big enough to hold the necessary information such as your name, any medical conditions you are suffering from, medications you are being prescribed, where your medication is kept, any allergies or allergic reactions to medication you may have, your doctors details, the contact details of two people who may be contacted in any emergency, the form also has a space for a passport size photograph, this is used as an aid to ensure correct identification and that the emergency people know that the form is connected to the person they are attending to at the premises
The bottle is then kept in the fridge door where the emergency services will expect to look for it in the event of being called to your home, they will be alerted to your use of the scheme by two green cross labels that are provided,
one is fixed to the back of the front door (or the door most used to access the premises) the second is attached to the door of the fridge
Who knows about the scheme
All the emergency services are aware of the Message in a Bottle scheme, by displaying the green stickers in your home the emergency services will locate the bottle in the fridge and use the form inside to ensure you are treated quickly which can save time and save lives
How much does it cost
When ordering / requiring one or two bottles the scheme is free to the public and is funded by Wolverhampton Lions Club, please contact the club if you require a larger number of bottles.
Where can I get a Message in a Bottle from
You may be able to find the bottles displayed in your local GP's surgery or local pharmacy, some will also be available in other places such as your community centre or your local church, however if you can't find a venue that has the Message in a Bottle please use the contact us form at the top of the page
